Born and raised in Guyana S.A., Jimmy began singing his heart out in his church choir and discovered the path he would follow at an early age. As a lead singer and guitarist he became so well recognized that he was invited to appear with renowned artists including: Sam & Dave, Ben E. King, and Carla Thomas. With them he performed for audiences in various European, American and Caribbean countries.

Jimmy first toured England with the Telstars and remained in London for 2 years performing with Dave Clark on a hectic club date schedule. His next career move took him to New York where he studied and perfected his craft.

While on a Canadian tour with Odyssey, he was given the opportunity to demonstrate his creativity by writing several albums for Artist Melody Stewart, Lorna Di Fiore, Caroline Bernier and several other known Canadian artists.

Jimmy then began his own recording career by co-authoring and recording 3 albums under the name of “Katmandu” producing such hits as ‘the Break’ and ‘Don’t Stop Keep On’. His single “I Wanna Dance“ on the Atlantic Record label earned him a Gold Record and was well received in Canada, and the U.S.A. as well as in various European Countries where it was distributed by EMI-Barclay records. As Katmandu,  Jimmy also had the opportunity to perform and record with Kat Dyson and Tchukon, who had been Star Search winners.

While absent from recording for most of the last decade, Jimmy's schedule of non-stop touring continued unabated. “The touring didn’t end because I didn’t have new records out” he smiles. I’ve been busy performing throughout the country and, in Canada performing at major hotels and doing corporate events. During this time, he was also cast in “Soul to Soul” a musical review at Ontario Place in Toronto, Canada showcasing 4 decades of hit making music.

Now, Jimmy is delighting his audience again with his new release the CD-single “Come Back Again” written by Dave Martins.

Currently residing in Florida, Jimmy Ray's dynamic personality and his versatile voice has made him a favorite in the Miami and Key Largo areas. His audiences are entertained by a variety of music from rhythm and blues, to soul, to rock’n’roll, to reggae, to old standards and top 40 hits.
